the last puzzle piece.

We finally got our photographer's wedding pictures in last night. There are some amazing shots, and I just want to keep looking through them over and over, reliving the night. I can't wait to share them with everyone, but until then, here's your teaser.

{That's me with my special lady friends from college.}

the other side.

Well kids, we made it to the other side. Outside of a few hiccups (car break-in, hair disaster, freezing temperatures, near-crippling anxiety), we had ourselves the best day of our lives. I feel like I could write a book about everything I learned in the wedding planning process. I think I'll at least write an essay called something like, "Why weddings are dumb ... but you should have one anyway."

final countdown.

Oh, Whiskey Kittens, I have not forgotten you. I've merely been prepping for my looming wedding, which is now a matter of days away. I haven't been particularly stressed, but it has been consuming pretty much all of my spare thoughts.

There's lots to ponder. The confluence of so many family and friends from my life and his. The year of planning and all of the ways it could go wrong. How I'll be able to keep myself from bawling my eyes out over happiness and nervousness. Whether it's possible to lose 10 pounds in 4 days. Last-minute projects to make the day extra-special.

There's so much to think about, yet for now, I'm calm.

I'm excited for everyone to get here to share the day with us. I'm excited to see everything come together. I can't wait to marry the man that I love. I can't wait to jet off to California for a week. And as tough as it'll be to return to real life after all the fun, I'm looking forward to normal life again, where I'm not defined by this one-day event.

leaf your mark.

I love this idea. I wonder if things would get messy?

nice stems.

My wedding to-do list is still insanely long, but today I feel like I got the final piece of the puzzle in place: the flowers. Originally I was going to forgo them altogether, because I couldn't justify spending that much money on something that would die in a few days.

But isn't that the nature of weddings? The food and drinks are consumed, the party shuts down, guests leave town, and all that's left is the memories. And flowers are — or they can be — a big part of setting the tone of the day.

Luckily for me, Charleston's most popular florist took forever to get back to me, so I started searching around and discovered Stems, run by Anne Bowen. I met with her today, and I've never been more excited about flowers. She's creative, enthusiastic, understanding of my budget concerns, and I trust her completely. I was so excited, I rewarded myself with a cupcake from Sugar.
(If I only had the cajones...)

bombing.

Today I found the final pieces to complete what I hope will be my vintage glam wedding day look.

My favorite vintage bombshell inspiration: Veronica Lake.

fizzy lifting.

Another thing I'm scheming. Via Project Wedding. Now, where to buy weird sodas?

here comes the bride.

We've finally decided on our ceremony music. I won't say what it is because I'm tired of raised eyebrows, but it's inspired by our favorite movie and I'm very excited about it. Hopefully people will be able to keep their eyebrows locked and lowered when the big day arrives, because this wedding is going to be anything but traditional.

i'm a fan of dodeline.

Sarah Early of Charleston-based DodelineDesign is making our custom wedding invitations, and I can't wait to see how it all turns out! She's been great about putting up with my indecisiveness, and I love what she's done so far.
These are just a few examples of her work, available in local shops like Lesesne and Mac & Murphy. Check out her Etsy shop, too.

life styles.

Everything Ashley Meaders does is amazing. If I had the money to hire someone to style my wedding — or just my life — it would be her.

make your mark.

I love the idea of nontraditional wedding guestbooks. There are so many fun ideas floating around the blogosphere I'm finding it impossible to choose. Can I please have more than one?

Let your guests type their love for you on a vintage typewriter. (Sadly, this beaut is sold.)

Find a fun graphic poster and have everyone sign it, like this one by twoforjoypaper.

Give your guests some props and a chalkboard (like this one), and you're sure to get some hilarious photos.

What's your favorite? Do you have any other fun ideas?
