happy fourth: old hollywood style.

How are you celebrating America's birthday? We plan to wander around our historic city today, grab some al fresco dinner, then watch the fireworks over the Charles River — I've heard it's an impressive display.

Now, which outfit should I wear? I'm leaning toward Liz Taylor's Western-inspired ensemble...

etsy love: blue notes.

I've been spending a lot of time on Etsy trying to extend my circles and discovering some really cool vintage shops. Here are some of my recent blue-hued favorites.

King's Down Road is an Atlanta-based shop with lots of fun glassware.

Mod Vintage Shop has a great selection of vintage glasses from the Netherlands.

Two Ring Circus has just everything I love.

Brooklyn Retro has antique typewriters and more.

Nod to Mod Vintage has the best dresses.

etsy.

I've been threatening it long enough: I'm finally working on making an Etsy comeback. I had a lot of fun doing Stinge Vintage with a friend, but we lost traction when most of our stock was damaged in a fire. I've been collecting clothes and housewares over the past few months, and will slowly be filling up my shop with vintage goods. Here's a little treasury I made, and you can see some of my first listings right here. I'm still figuring out the best place/time of day to photograph, so bear with me.

wk vintage.

Here's a little sneak peek of a few of the items I've been collecting for my new vintage shop. The velvet dress on top has an amazing low back with a big bow. The sequined crop top in the center appears to be from the '70s, and the plaid blazer is probably 1950s or '60s.

I'm thinking of taking a thematic approach to the shop, grouping pieces by decade, style, or mood. I'm also trying to decide whether to sell on Etsy or eBay, and I need to figure out how to light my shoots better. If you have any insight or comments, please advise.

vintage on main.

My one-stoplight hometown of Amherst, Virginia boasts little more than an outdated Food Lion, a dusty hardware store, and a library. It also now has one of the best little vintage stores I've run across— maybe because the prices are so good. If you're ever headed up 29 in Virginia, be sure to make a stop.

I bought '50s table linens, earrings, sparkly clothes, and more. I also bought a dress form, and I decided to branch out with my own vintage shop focused more on 1940s-60s, feminine pieces and housewares. I can't wait to show you my treasures!

it's ok to be stingey.

When I'm not working at my day job at the Charleston City Paper, I like to do fun things, like shop. My co-worker Susan and I decided to turn our mutual love of thrifting into something lucrative, thus Stinge Vintage was born.

We've been amazed at the response from people both locally and around the world who apparently love our selection of affordable vintage clothes and housewares.

Work has forced us to take a bit of a hiatus over the past few months, but we're getting back on track. Keep an eye on our Etsy for new posts every week, and become a Facebook fan, too. Some recent favorites added to the shop:
a powdery blue gown (with original tags!)
a handmade '50s-style shift dress
a kitschy little recipe box
